Google Marks Start of ICC World Cup 2023 with Cricket Doodle

CALIFORNIA: Google has marked the start of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 with a doodle of cricket.

The ICC World Cup 2023 will kick off today (Thursday) with the opening clash between England, the reigning champions, and New Zealand, the runners-up from the 2019 World Cup.

India is the host of this prestigious tournament, marking the 13th edition since the event originated in 1975. Ten teams are geared up to compete for the highly sought-after championship title.

The group stage will witness a total of 45 matches, with each team facing off against all the others once. The participating teams this year include Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Only four teams will advance to the knockout stage, featuring two semi-final matches and a final in Ahmedabad. The tournament is slated to unfold across various Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Dharamsala, and Pune.
