LAHORE: Former caretaker premier Sardar Mir Balakh Sher Mazari (94) passed away in Lahore on Friday.
The family sources said that the former Caretaker Prime Minister was undergoing treatment in Lahore for a long time. He served as the Caretaker Prime Minister after Mian Nawaz Sharif’s government was overthrown by president Ghulam Ishaq Khan in 1993.
Mazari’s tenure as caretaker prime minister ended abruptly on 26 May 1993 when the Supreme Court revoked the presidential order and reinstated Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister. He was the Tumandar (chieftain) and the paramount Sardar of the Mazari tribe which is situated on the tristate area between Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab provinces of Pakistan. As the chieftain of his tribe, he holds the title of “Mir” but also goes by the styles of “Tumandar” or “Sardar”.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed grief and sorrow over the death of former Caretaker Prime Minister Mir Balakh Sher Mazari and said his services to the nation will be remembered forever. He prayed to Almighty Allah for the rest of the soul of the deceased.
