After nearly three years of Covid study, researchers have come across the first data points demonstrating a substantial shift in human organs following a Covid infection.

“The viral infection accelerates the aging process in people,” said Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, heading the research. Dr. Al-Aly collected nationwide data from millions of individuals. Similar trends emerged in their investigations on kidney outcomes in long Covid, long Covid in the brain, and long Covid in the heart.

All evidence suggested that following Covid, several human organs aged more quickly. Faster aging occurred among hospitalized patients and in people with moderate Covid symptoms. The researcher observed that individuals had a three to four percent decline in kidney function in the year following an infection, equivalent to 3-4 years of aging, which often occurs as people age.

However, despite the need for more years of data, Dr. Al Aly is confident that the faster-aging process will eventually stop.

How has Pakistan Fared During the Covid Pandemic?

Pakistan is the fifth-most populated country in the world, yet it only boasts the 29th-highest death toll thus far (at approximately 30,624). Due to the government’s effective Covid-19 policies, including smart lockdowns and anti-Covid vaccinations, the nation has fared better than most countries. Over 98 percent of patients have recovered from the disease, with only 2% reported deaths.
