ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome met caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar here on Friday.
The ambassador expressed his pleasure over having a meeting with the Caretaker Prime Minister. The envoy reaffirmed steadfast commitment to the US-Pakistan relationship and support for free and fair elections in Pakistan.
The US envoy also expressed his desire to work with and through the US-Pakistan Green Alliance to build for the future. Encouraged protection of religious minorities, and continued partnership with IMF on economic recovery was also discussed during the meeting.
According to the PM office, Ambassador Blome congratulated Kakar on assuming office and reaffirmed the US desire of supporting Pakistan’s economic and development agenda.
The PM said that Pakistan and the US enjoyed longstanding and broad-based relations rooted in mutual respect, common interests and shared values. He expressed satisfaction on the current positive trajectory of bilateral ties and reaffirmed the Government’s desire to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the key areas including trade and investment, climate change, energy and security.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the caretaker Government’s main responsibility is to assist the ECP in the electoral process and provide constitutional continuity during the period of democratic transition. He appreciated the US role in helping Pakistan stabilize its economy and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue the reform agenda for achieving sustainable growth.
Noting the role the US private sector has traditionally played in supporting Pakistan’s economic growth, the PM hoped that more US companies would explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s information technology sector.
Lauding the contributions of the Pakistani-American community towards strengthening Pak-US ties, the PM called for increasing people-to-people contact between the two nations.
