ISLAMABAD: The Human Rights Commission Pakistan (HRCP) will conduct a consultation meeting to discuss the factors leading to child labour in domestic on Tuesday.
Muhammad Asif, the representative of HRCP, told APP that the consultation aimed to discuss the factors leading to child labour, the types of exploitation children face at work, and the existing laws about this practice.
He added that according to a 2022 survey by the International Labor Organization, one in every four Pakistani households uses a kid in domestic work, typically between the ages of 10 and 14. Although it is against the law to employ children under a specific age, this practice is widely practiced due to poor enforcement of the law and societal and cultural acceptance of the course.
He stated that the HRCP would seek solutions to stop this violation of human rights based on participants’ perspectives, including advocates for children’s rights, state representatives, attorneys, and subject matter experts. —APP
