WASHINGTON: The United States (US) will not pay compensations to developing nations hit by climate-fueled catastrophes, US Special Envoy on Climate Change John Kerry told a congressional hearing on Thursday.

Washington ‘Under no Circumstances’ to Pay Climate Compensations

He was asked during a hearing before a House of Representatives foreign affairs oversight subcommittee whether or not the US would contribute to a fund that to pay nations that have been suffered from storms, floods, and other climate-driven catastrophes. He replied, “No under no conditions,”.

Around 3.3 billion to 3.6 billion people live in regions that are highly vulnerable to climate change.

At the 2022 Cop27 conference in Egypt, the United States (US) was among the nations agreeing to constitute a “loss and damage” fund, paid for by rich countries, to help low-income nations that carry a disproportionate climate change load compared to their emissions output.
