ISLAMABAD: British foreign secretary Ed Miliband on Thursday praised Pakistan’s constructive role and facilitation efforts in promoting dialogue, diplomacy and stability in the Middle East.
The British foreign secretary made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in London, a Foreign Office statement said.
The two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and agreed to establish a structured mechanism for formal talks between the two Foreign Ministries to cover all areas of cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties and regularly review progress in key areas.

“They underscored the importance of sustained high-level engagement and closer coordination on matters of mutual interest,” it said.
Pakistan-UK review evolving situation in the Middle East
The two ministers exchanged views on key regional and international developments, with particular focus on the evolving situation in the Middle East.
Deputy Prime Minister briefed British counterpart on Islamabad’s diplomatic and mediation efforts in the region, as well as the progress made through these engagements.
The discussions also covered developments related to the Indus Waters Treaty and the broader regional security situation. Dar highlighted what he described as India’s continued violations of its international obligations and stressed the need to uphold international law and treaty commitments.
Emanating terrorist threats from Afghan soil
Dar also expressed serious concern over terrorist threats emanating from Afghan soil, warning that militant groups operating from Afghanistan continue to pose a threat to Pakistan’s peace and security.
Both sides underscored the importance of sustained engagement in advancing peace, stability and cooperation in the region and beyond.
The two Ministers recognised the important role of the Pakistani diaspora in further strengthening the longstanding ties and people-to-people links between the two countries.
Deputy PM Dar arrived in London on Sunday to undertake a five-day official visit to the UK from August 24-28.
British lawmakers praise Pakistan’s mediation efforts

Meanwhile, the British lawmakers “lauded Pakistan’s leadership and mediation efforts in the Middle East” in a meeting with Deputy PM Dar, saying that “Pakistan’s historic role had been internationally recognised and had filled all overseas Pakistanis with pride”.
According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Deputy PM Dar “appreciated the important role played by the British parliamentarians in strengthening Pakistan-UK ties and their staunch advocacy for a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute”, according to the ministry.
Ishaq Dar shared Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives for de-escalation and peace in the Middle East. He underscored that “adherence to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by all parties was critical to achieving durable peace and stability in the region”.
