ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has suspended the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) orders in the case related to audio leaks involving Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI chairman, and Najam Saqib, son of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, local media reported on Monday.
The apex court has also barred the IHC from further proceedings in the matter. A two-member bench of the SC, comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Aminuddin, heard the federal government’s petition about the audio leaks.
During the hearing, the SC stated that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) cannot proceed with the audio leaks case. It deemed the High Court’s orders of May 29 and June 25 as exceeding its powers, saying that the IHC does not have the authority to take suo motu notice, local media reported.
The SC, upon the request of the federal government, summoned the record of the audio leaks case and issued notices to Najam Saqib and Bushra Bibi.
During the hearing, Justice Aminuddin Khan asked whether or not the IHC had determined who recorded the audio. The Additional Attorney General replied that this has not yet been established and the prob is underway.
