Skipper Kusal Mendis Returns as Sri Lanka Name 15-Member T20I Squad for Pakistan Series

Sri Lanka captain returns after injury as Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga miss three-match Rawalpindi series on October 9, 11 and 13.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka have recalled captain Kusal Mendis for their three-match T20I series against Pakistan, while injuries to Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga have forced changes to the squad for the upcoming tour.

Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 15-member squad on Friday, with Mendis returning to lead the side after missing the recent T20I series against England. The series will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13.

Charith Asalanka captained Sri Lanka in Mendis’ absence during the England series, which Sri Lanka lost 3-0. Asalanka is not included in the squad for the Pakistan T20Is.

Nissanka, Hasaranga ruled out

Sri Lanka will be without opener Pathum Nissanka and all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for the T20I series because of injuries. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth has been included as a spin option, while Sineth Jayawardena joins the squad.

Sahan Arachchige, Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Binura Fernando have also been included for the Pakistan assignment.

Dushmantha Chameera is part of the squad subject to fitness, according to Sri Lanka Cricket.

Sri Lanka set for multi-format Pakistan tour

The T20I series will be the opening leg of Sri Lanka’s extended tour of Pakistan. The two teams will later feature in an ODI tri-series involving England from October 18 to 31, followed by a two-match Test series beginning November 9.

The T20I matches in Rawalpindi will give both sides an early opportunity to prepare for the wider multi-format campaign, with Sri Lanka scheduled to depart for Pakistan on October 4.
