ISLAMABAD: Can Pakistan defeat India and claim the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket gold medal? That question will dominate Saturday’s sporting action as the two arch-rivals meet for the first time in the history of the Asian Games men’s cricket competition at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
The gold-medal clash begins at 1:30pm local time (4:30am GMT; 9:30am Pakistan Standard Time) on Saturday, October 3. India reached the final after crushing Sri Lanka by 124 runs, while Pakistan secured their place with a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in a rain-reduced semi-final.
India are defending the gold medal they won at Hangzhou 2023, while Pakistan are seeking their first Asian Games cricket gold after previously winning bronze at Guangzhou 2010.
Pakistan’s route to victory
Pakistan will need a disciplined all-round performance against an Indian side that produced a dominant semi-final display.
Captain Sahibzada Farhan will be central to Pakistan’s batting plans. He has already produced important performances against India in recent T20 encounters and will be expected to provide a strong start at the top of the order.

Pakistan also have momentum from their semi-final against Bangladesh. After losing four wickets early in the chase of 112, Abdul Samad changed the course of the match with an unbeaten 30 from 15 balls, while Hasan Nawaz contributed 27.
With the ball, Sufyan Moqim will be one of Pakistan’s key weapons. The left-arm wrist-spinner took three wickets for 26 runs against Bangladesh, while Pakistan are expected to rely heavily on spin because of the conditions in Nisshin.
India enter final with powerful batting and bowling attack
India arrive after one of the most convincing performances of the tournament.
They posted 169 for 7 against Sri Lanka, with Ishan Kishan leading the way with an unbeaten 80 from 46 balls. Teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also impressed with 38 from 21 deliveries.
India’s bowlers then dismissed Sri Lanka for just 45, with Jasprit Bumrah taking two wickets in the opening over and Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma also claiming two wickets each.
That combination of explosive batting and a varied bowling attack gives India several avenues to control the final, while Pakistan will look to exploit the turning conditions and put pressure on India’s middle order.

Head-to-head adds another layer
The Asian Games final will be the first men’s cricket meeting between India and Pakistan at the continental event.
In T20 internationals, however, India have the stronger recent record. The two teams have met 17 times, with India winning 13 matches, Pakistan three and one ending in a tie, according to data published ahead of the final. India also won their most recent T20 World Cup meeting in February 2026 by 61 runs.
Pakistan’s most recent T20I victory over India came in September 2022, when they won by five wickets in the Asia Cup semi-final.
Those figures provide historical context, but Saturday’s match will be decided by the performances on the day, particularly on a pitch expected to offer turn and bounce.

Rain could change the gold-medal equation
Weather could again play a role after rain disrupted the Asian Games cricket schedule.
Both teams had their quarter-finals abandoned because of rain before advancing to the semi-finals on the basis of their rankings. Pakistan then beat Bangladesh in a match reduced to 13 overs per side, while India completed their semi-final in full.
If the final is completely washed out, the gold medal will be shared by India and Pakistan under the competition rules reported ahead of the match. This differs from the 2023 Asian Games final, when India were awarded gold after rain prevented the final against Afghanistan from being completed.
Sahibzada Farhan, Ishan Kishan in spotlight
For Pakistan, Farhan’s role at the top of the order could be crucial. His ability to attack India’s new-ball bowlers while preserving wickets could shape Pakistan’s approach in the powerplay.
India will again look towards Kishan after his unbeaten 80 against Sri Lanka. His ability to score quickly against spin and pace makes him one of India’s principal batting threats.
The final also features several high-profile names, including Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma for India, while Pakistan will rely on Farhan, Saim Ayub, Abdul Samad, Sufyan Moqim and Abrar Ahmed.
