ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, has discussed regional developments in a phone call with the Foreign Minister of Bahrain, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

During the call, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region and the continuation of bilateral coordination and consultation to promote security and stability, a Foreign Ministry statement said on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention that Prince Faisal bin Farhan visited Bahrain on June 10 to attend the 167th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council, focusing on regional coordination, political developments, and shared strategic interests.

Saudi Arabia has always condemned Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain, adding that continued violations of the sovereignty of neighbouring states would further increase tensions in the region.

The call comes following the announcement by the US and Iranian officials agreeing on a framework aimed at ending hostilities, lifting the US blockade on Iran, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.

US President Donald Trump declared on his Truth Social platform that a deal with Iran had been completed, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced earlier on Monday that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran had been reached following intensive diplomatic efforts in which Pakistan played a mediating role.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.

Pakistan has consistently supported diplomatic efforts during the period of tensions between the United States and Iran and has remained committed to peaceful solutions to international disputes.
