RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Interior Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud, held a telephone conversation on Friday with his Pakistani counterpart Mohsin Naqvi, during which both sides reviewed aspects of security cooperation and coordination.

During the call they also discussed topics of mutual interest, according to Saudi Interior Ministry.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia had reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s mediation and diplomatic efforts to reach a political solution between the United States and Iran to bring peace and stability in the region.

Saudi Arabia continues to be one of Pakistan’s closest defence and security partners in the Middle East, with sustained and comprehensive engagement across the air, land, and naval domains.

In recent years, the two countries have significantly expanded military cooperation through joint exercises, training exchanges, and formal defence agreements.

In September last year, the two countries signed a mutual defence agreement under which any act of aggression against one state would be considered an attack on both.

Saudi Arabia remains Pakistan’s largest source of remittances and hosts more than 2.5 million Pakistani expatriates, highlighting the depth of economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Last month, Saudi Arabia committed $3 billion in additional financial support to Pakistan and agreed to extend an existing $5 billion deposit.
