ISLAMABAD: Rallies, seminars and solidarity events were held across Pakistan on Wednesday to mark Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, with people from all walks of life reaffirming support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and their right to self-determination.
Rallies and solidarity events were held across all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and districts nationwide, where participants reaffirmed solidarity with the Kashmiri people, condemned India’s August 5, 2019, actions and renewed Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmir cause.
Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir is observed annually on August 5 to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and reaffirm Pakistan’s support for their right to self-determination.
The day marks the anniversary of India’s August 5, 2019, decision to revoke Articles 370 and 35A of its Constitution, ending the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

In Islamabad, a rally was held to mark Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, with government officials, diplomats and Hurriyat leaders reaffirming support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and condemning India’s constitutional changes of August 5, 2019.
The rally was organised jointly by the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Convener Ghulam Nabi Safi, former minister Zamurd Khan, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, senior Foreign Office officials and people from different walks of life participated in the event.

Leaders Reaffirm Support for Kashmiris
Addressing the rally, Federal Minister Amir Muqam said India should not assume that unilateral measures could legitimise what Pakistan considers its occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the Kashmir issue could not be suppressed as long as the people of Kashmir and Pakistan continued to support the cause.
PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said Pakistan would continue extending political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people until they were able to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
He described Kashmir as a living struggle and said the Pakistani nation valued the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people.

Calls for International Action
Speaking at the rally, Zamurd Khan paid tribute to the late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani and said India’s actions of August 5, 2019, had deprived Kashmiris of their fundamental rights.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for the people of Kashmir.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs Shabbir Ahmed Usmani also addressed the gathering, expressing confidence that the Kashmir dispute would ultimately be resolved under the leadership of Pakistan’s political and military leadership.
At the conclusion of the rally, participants reiterated their solidarity with the Kashmiri people and urged the international community to take notice of the human rights situation in IIOJK and play its role in ensuring the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
In a video message in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called upon India to cease all actions that undermine the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a separate message, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of IIOJK and urged the international community to play a more effective role in protecting human rights and advancing a peaceful resolution of the longstanding Kashmir dispute.
The minister said Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir served as a reminder of Pakistan’s enduring commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted what he described as the consequences of India’s August 5, 2019, actions on the rights, identity and future of the Kashmiri people.

Separately, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman on Wednesday paid tribute to the courage, resilience and sacrifices of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for their right to self-determination and calling for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
In a statement, Rehman condemned India’s August 5, 2019, decision to revoke Articles 370 and 35A of its Constitution, describing the move as illegal and unilateral.
