ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rain, windstorm and thundershowers in the upper and central parts of the country during the next two days, warning authorities and citizens to remain vigilant.
According to the Met Office, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously entering the upper parts of Pakistan, while currents from the Bay of Bengal are also expected to enter northeastern areas from Sunday evening or night.
A westerly wave is also likely to approach the upper parts of the country within the next 12 hours.

Under the influence of this weather system, scattered rain, windstorm and thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, are expected in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Islamabad from July 6 night to July 8 with occasional gaps.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan on July 7 and 8, while isolated rain, windstorm and thundershowers are likely in north and northeastern Balochistan on the night of July 7 and July 8.
Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and very humid. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are likely in Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Qambar Shahdadkot and Naushahro Feroze on July 7 and 8.
Urban flooding warning
The Met Office warned that windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures, including solar panels, electric poles and billboards.
Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while water flow may increase in local streams, nullahs and hill torrents.
Heavy rains may cause localised urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad.
Tourists and travellers have been advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, while farmers have been urged to manage crop activities according to weather conditions.
