KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that weather in the port city of Karachi is expected to remain overcast, with chances of drizzling during the nighttime hours today (Tuesday).
According to the latest weather update released by the Met Department, the cloud cover is expected to persist for at least a day. The rain could bring the temperatures to 36°C during the day and 29°C during the night.
While providing insights into the expected timeframe for the monsoon spell, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman has urged the public and relevant authorities, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to remain vigilant and keep in mind the risk of urban flooding.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has cautioned about the possibility of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in north/northeastern Punjab, encompassing cities such as Lahore, Sialkot, and Narowal. Additionally, high or very high river flows are expected in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, along with their associated Nullahs—Bhimber, Aik, Deg, Palkhu, and Basanter.
The NDMA further emphasized that these conditions could potentially lead to urban flooding in municipal areas and landslides in hilly regions.
