KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said he will once again approach Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek approval for allowing fans to attend Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 matches at stadiums.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, the PCB chairman said efforts were underway to restore crowd presence during the ongoing tournament. “I will speak again to the prime minister regarding the crowd,” he said, adding that the board would make every effort to bring spectators back.

However, he stressed that any decision must take into account the broader regional situation, particularly the ongoing Middle East conflict and its economic impact.
The PCB had earlier decided to hold PSL 11 matches without spectators as part of government austerity measures introduced in response to the global fuel crisis. Matches were also restricted to two venues — Karachi and Lahore — to minimise public movement.

Franchise owners

Franchise owners have since called for a reconsideration, arguing that fan presence is vital to the league’s atmosphere and identity. They have urged both federal and provincial authorities to allow spectators for the remainder of the tournament.

The PCB chairman also praised law enforcement agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of matches despite prevailing challenges. He made it clear that while efforts were being made to bring fans back, there would be no changes to the tournament schedule.

Naqvi added that franchises would receive gate money compensation, with the board covering associated expenses.
He further revealed that plans are being considered to review and potentially rebuild the National Bank Cricket Arena to improve facilities in the future.
