In September last year, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement during the visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Riyadh.
The agreement “aims to develop aspects of defence cooperation between the two countries and strengthen joint deterrence against any aggression”.
The agreement states that any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both.
The defence agreement established a framework for closer military cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, including joint training exercises, the exchange of expertise and the deployment of personnel and assets.
