ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister ‌Ishaq Dar will ‌visit Washington on Friday where he will meet US Secretary of State Marco ‌Rubio to discuss regional and global developments, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said on Thursday.

“Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, after concluding his engagements at the United Nations Security Council and other meetings in New York, will depart for an official visit to Washington, D.C. tomorrow, 29 May 2026,” it said.

It further said during the visit, he will meet with the United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, Marco Rubio, to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

The talks will also cover ways to enhance cooperation in key priority areas, alongside Pakistan’s efforts to advance regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.

The visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and multifaceted partnership with the United States, the statement added.

After concluding his official engagements in Washington, D.C., the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister is scheduled to return to Islamabad later the same day.

The visit comes amid Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to help broker a lasting peace agreement aimed at ending the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

On April 8, Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between the US and Iran and also hosted direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.

The Islamabad Talks concluded without reaching a final agreement; however, they paved the way for diplomacy to permanently end the conflict.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ishaq Dar assured United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres of Pakistan’s continued commitment to engagement and dialogue aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region

During the meeting, Dar praised the UN chief’s steadfast commitment to the UN and multilateralism and also appreciated for his “continued support and strong cooperation” with Pakistan.

A day earlier, Dar addressed a United Nations Security Council debate chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the UN headquarters in New York, where he called for sustained diplomatic engagement in the ongoing US-Iran tensions and highlighted Pakistan’s role in efforts to reduce escalation between Tehran and Washington.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also held bilateral talks with foreign ministers of several nations on matters of mutual interest as well as regional and international developments.
