ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit China on Tuesday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Foreign Office said on Monday.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the visit would include discussions on regional developments as well as bilateral and global issues of mutual interest.
Andrabi added that Dar’s visit underscores the importance Islamabad attaches to its ties with Beijing, adding that Pakistan and China enjoy an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership”, with close coordination on regional and international issues.
The visit comes as Pakistan steps up efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran.
Dar said on Sunday that both Washington and Tehran had expressed confidence in Pakistan’s role as a facilitator, adding that Islamabad would be “honoured” to host talks between the two sides in the coming days.
He said China supports the initiative following a recent conversation with Wang Yi, while the United Nations Secretary-General has also backed the effort.
The diplomatic push follows a meeting in Islamabad on Sunday involving the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt, where participants discussed ways to de-escalate the Middle East conflict.
