Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Salman Agha, and Shan Masood Make Gains in ICC Test Rankings

Despite a 0-2 series loss to Bangladesh, three Pakistani batters see their rankings improve as England’s Joe Root stays on top.

ISLAMABAD: Despite a disastrous home series loss to Bangladesh where the team failed to win a single match, three Pakistan batters, Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha, and captain Shan Masood, have surprisingly climbed the latest ICC Test rankings, offering a rare silver lining for the struggling side.

Babar Azam rose one place to 22nd position, now holding 663 rating points. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan remained static at 21st. Middle-order batter Salman Agha climbed two rungs from 29th to 27th with 636 points. Meanwhile, captain Shan Masood jumped two spots to 44th with 558 points.

Elsewhere among batters, Imam-ul-Haq stayed at 53rd, while Abdullah Shafique slipped two places to 56th. Youngster Abdullah Fazal had a sharp fall, dropping 23 spots to 98th with just 288 points.

England’s Joe Root and Harry Brook continue to dominate the batting charts, holding first and second places respectively, with Australia’s Travis Head in third.

In the ICC Test bowling rankings, Pakistan’s Noman Ali dropped two places to seventh (817 points). Shaheen Shah Afridi also slipped two spots to 26th (624 points). Mohammad Abbas remained 28th, while Sajid Khan fell one place to 31st (551 points). Hasan Ali gained one spot to reach 39th, and Khurram Shahzad stayed at 49th.

In the all-rounders’ list, Asif Afridi dropped four places to 86th, and Agha Salman fell three spots to 94th. India’s Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the Test bowling rankings, followed by Australia’s Mitchell Starc and New Zealand’s Matt Henry.
