ISLAMABAD: Pakistani-origin businessman Muizz Ahmed Mirza has acquired English non-league football club Plymouth Parkway FC through his international education company, MEC Study Group, with ambitions to guide the team into the English Football League (EFL) within the next 10 years.

Born in Karachi, Mirza becomes the second Pakistani to own an English football club, marking a notable development for Pakistani-origin investors in British football.

From Karachi to English Football ownership

Founded in 1988, Plymouth Parkway plays its home matches at Bolitho Park and competes in the Southern League Premier Division South, the seventh tier of English football.

The club sits four divisions below its better-known local rival, Plymouth Argyle, which competes in the English Football League system.

Kuwait-based Mirza has outlined a long-term vision for Plymouth Parkway, expressing his dream of taking the club into the EFL within the next decade. Achieving that goal would require sustained progress through the English football pyramid, with success on the pitch and long-term investment likely to play important roles.

A new chapter for Plymouth Parkway

The takeover offers Plymouth Parkway an opportunity to pursue its ambitions under new ownership. Mirza’s stated target signals a long-term approach focused on moving the club towards higher levels of English football.

Pakistani-origin American businessman Shahid Khan has previously owned an English football club, making Mirza the latest entrepreneur of Pakistani origin to enter the country’s football ownership landscape.

The coming seasons will show how Mirza and MEC Study Group translate their ambitions into a development plan for Plymouth Parkway as the club seeks to climb the English football pyramid.
