RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s emerging all-rounder Arafat Minhas delivered a remarkable double of bat and ball on Tuesday, scoring a half-century before claiming six wickets to join legendary performers Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq in an exclusive club of Pakistani cricketers.

The 21-year-old scored 59 off 58 balls and then returned figures of 6-40 in 8.4 overs as Pakistan defeated England by 87 runs in the second match of the ODI tri-series in Rawalpindi.

In only his fifth ODI appearance, Minhas became the third Pakistani to score at least 50 runs and take five or more wickets in the same match, producing a performance that could prove a defining moment in his young international career.

Minhas Rescues Pakistan before dismantling England

Minhas came to the crease when Pakistan were struggling at 133-5 in 27.3 overs. He responded with a composed yet attacking innings, hitting nine boundaries to help the hosts recover from early setbacks.

His 59-run contribution, alongside Hasan Nawaz’s blistering 79, lifted Pakistan to a formidable 302-9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Minhas then turned the contest decisively in Pakistan’s favour with the ball. His left-arm spin tore through England’s batting line-up, earning him six wickets for just 40 runs as the visitors were dismissed for 215.

The all-rounder’s performance secured Pakistan a convincing victory while placing his name alongside two of the country’s most celebrated all-rounders.

Pakistan’s ODI all-rounders: Fifty plus five-wicket haul

Minhas’s achievement adds his name to a select list featuring Afridi and Razzaq, who also produced outstanding performances with both bat and ball.

  • Shahid Afridi: Scored 61 runs and took 5-40 against England in Lahore in 2000.
  • Abdul Razzaq: Scored 70 runs and claimed 5-48 against India in 2000.
  • Shahid Afridi: Scored 75 runs and took 5-35 against Sri Lanka in 2011.
  • Shahid Afridi: Scored 76 runs and claimed 7-12 against the West Indies in 2013.
  • Arafat Minhas: Scored 59 runs and took 6-40 against England in Rawalpindi in 2026.

Afridi remains the only cricketer to have achieved the half-century and five-wicket double three times in men’s ODI cricket.

A promising milestone for Pakistan’s young all-rounder

Afridi first achieved the feat against England in 2000, while Razzaq joined the list later that year against India. Minhas has now followed in their footsteps, making his mark against the same opposition that featured in Afridi’s first such performance.

Having made his ODI debut against Australia in May 2026, Minhas has reached the milestone early in his international career. His performance demonstrated his ability to contribute under pressure with the bat and deliver a decisive bowling spell.

For Pakistan, his display offered an encouraging glimpse of an emerging all-rounder who can influence a match in both departments.
