ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing and other areas of mutual security interest.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and British National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell in London on Thursday, a Foreign Office statement said.
The two sides exchanged views on key regional and international security developments, including the situations in South Asia, the Middle East and Afghanistan. They also reviewed Pakistan–UK cooperation in counterterrorism and security.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Islamabad’s important role in promoting regional peace and security and underscored its sustained diplomatic engagement in support of dialogue, de-escalation and negotiated outcomes.
Both sides agreed to maintain close consultations on regional security developments.
Earlier, Ishaq Dar held a meeting with British foreign secretary Ed Miliband, where the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and agreed to establish a structured mechanism for formal talks between the two Foreign Ministries to cover all areas of cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties and regularly review progress in key areas.

Deputy PM Dar arrived in London on Sunday to undertake a five-day official visit to the UK from August 24-28.
