ANTALYA: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif participated in a trilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al  Thani, on the sidelines of the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 in Turkiye, where the leaders discussed key regional developments, ongoing peace efforts, and the situation in Gaza and Palestine.

The three leaders underscored the importance of continued coordination and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing dialogue and diplomacy as essential tools for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region, a PM House statement said on Friday.

The discussions also addressed the concerning humanitarian and security situation in Gaza and Palestine.

The leaders agreed to maintain close cooperation and to work together in support of peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts through sustained diplomatic engagement.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sharif held a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who praised Pakistan’s peace efforts, adding Ankara would continue to support Islamabad’s diplomatic initiative to bring peace to the region.

The two leaders underscored the importance of making effective use of the current window of opportunity to promote durable and lasting peace in the region. Reaffirming the deep-rooted, historic, and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, they expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in bilateral relations.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, said the window opened by the ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran should be used effectively to secure lasting peace.

“No matter how deep the disagreements may be, we must not allow weapons to replace words in resolving them, or bloody conflict to supplant negotiations,” he said.  He warned against Israel’s action to undermine the negotiation process.

The visit of PM Sharif to Turkiye is part of his regional tour from April 15 to 18, which also included Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Pakistan is trying to host another round of Iran-US talks in Islamabad, for which dates are being decided mutually.

The White House has indicated that a second round of US-Iran talks is “very likely” to take place in Islamabad, underscoring Pakistan’s growing role as a central diplomatic channel between Washington and Tehran.
