KAKAMIGAHARA, Japan: Pakistan’s teenage hockey warriors rose from the ashes of defeat to claim bronze at the Men’s U18 Asia Cup 2026, dismantling Malaysia 3-0 on Saturday with a performance that mixed raw nerve with breathtaking precision.
The Green Shirts, still bleeding from a 5-3 semi-final loss to arch-rivals India, refused to leave Japan empty-handed. Uzair Ahmad ignited the medal playoff inside three minutes, a sensational field goal that cut through Malaysia’s defence like a hot knife.

The early strike silenced the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Hockey Stadium’s Malaysian contingent and set the tone for a masterclass in controlled aggression.
Pakistan did not relent. Even as Adeel saw a green card late in the first quarter, the defensive line held firm. Then, in the 23rd minute, captain Asam Haider stepped up to convert a penalty stroke with ice-cold composure, doubling the lead to 2-0.
The third quarter turned into a chaotic penalty corner shootout, five in total (three for Pakistan, two for Malaysia), but neither side could break through. The scoreboard remained frozen at 2-0, a silent testament to Pakistan’s resolute defending.
For 44 minutes of the final quarter, the game teetered on the edge of tension. Then, with barely a minute left on the clock, Adeel atoned for his earlier card in the most emphatic way possible, another sensational field goal to round off a dominant victory and seal bronze.

The result carries extra weight given Pakistan’s turbulent campaign. They opened with a polished 3-0 win over China, stumbled to a narrow 3-2 loss against Malaysia, then roared back to thrash Bangladesh 5-2, topping Group B before the semi-final heartbreak against India. Last year’s runners-up, they leave Kakamigahara with heads held high.
