ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed seven Indian-backed terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, security sources said.

Sources said security forces, using determination and combat skills, pursued the terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij and destroyed their hideouts in the Eidak area.

Fitna al-Khawarij is the term used by the state to refer to terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism and establishing lasting peace under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision, the sources said.

The latest operation comes a day after security forces killed six terrorists during an operation against Fitna al-Hindustan in Balochistan’s Kachhi district, security sources said.

The terrorists were successfully targeted using quadcopters in the Sani area of Kachhi district under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3, the sources said.

A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the terrorists, they added.

Pakistan witnesses significant rise in cross-border terrorist attacks

Pakistan has witnessed a significant rise in cross-border terrorist attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.

The country recorded its highest monthly number of terrorist attacks in 12 years in September 2026.

According to data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based independent think tank that monitors anti-state violence in the region, 225 terrorist attacks were reported across the country in September, up from 199 in August, marking a 13% increase. The number of attacks rose for the third consecutive month.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used by terrorist organisations to carry out attacks inside the counntry.

Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban authorities have failed to take effective action against groups responsible for attacks on the security forces and civilians, a claim disputed by Kabul.

Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February 2026, months after the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in October 2025 following clashes at several points along the border.

Pakistan President, PM praise security forces

In a statement, President Zardari said the efforts of the security forces under Azm-e-Istehkam to completely eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace were commendable.

Prime Minister Shehbaz, in his message, said systematic operations against terrorists reflected the professional expertise of the security forces and the nation’s resolve. He further added that the entire nation was proud of its brave armed forces.
