ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Security forces killed three Indian-backed terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, as counter-terrorism operations continue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said on Wednesday.
The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in Mir Ali and adjoining areas, according to the sources.
Fitna al-Khawarij is the term used by the state to refer to terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists following the operation. The forces also destroyed hideouts being used by Fitna al-Khawarij in Mir Ali and nearby areas.

Security forces also foiled an attempt by terrorists to intercept a truck carrying ration supplies near Mir Ali Bazaar, the sources said. The intervention prevented the vehicle from being seized and allowed the truck to continue its journey safely.

The latest operation comes amid continued security operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against terrorist groups. On September 29, security forces also reported killing five Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Bara, Khyber district, recovering weapons and ammunition from the site.
Security authorities have said counter-terrorism operations will continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework, with the stated aim of dismantling terrorist networks and preventing attacks against security personnel and civilians.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have commended security forces for their successful operation in Mir Ali, North Waziristan.
In their separate statements, they said the professionalism and courage of security forces in the war against terrorism are a source of pride.

He said that nefarious designs of terrorist elements operating with foreign support would be foiled at all costs.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that operations by security forces would continue until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
He said eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country is the government’s top priority.
The Prime Minister said the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the security forces.

According to monthly data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), at least 378 people were killed in August as the number of terrorist attacks increased.
The data showed that security forces killed 203 terrorists during operations, while 54 security personnel were martyred, representing a decline from July. Balochistan remained the “most affected” province, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the report.
