ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces on Tuesday killed five Indian-backed terrorists in an intelligence-based counterterrorism operation in Bara, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while two terrorists were killed in a separate operation in Balochistan.
Security sources said the terrorists belonged to Fitna al Khawarij and that large quantities of weapons and ammunition were recovered during the operation in Bara.
Fitna al-Khawarij is the term used by the state to refer to terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

“As a result of the security forces’ operation, Fitna al-Khawarij hideouts were completely destroyed,” security sources said.
“Security forces remain committed to the complete eradication of the scourge of terrorism from the country and the establishment of lasting peace.”
Meanwhile, the security forces killed two terrorists in operations in Balochistan’s Chagai.

President Asif Ali Zardari has paid tribute to the security forces and law enforcement agencies for their successful operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In a statement, the president said “the entire nation was proud of the courage of the security forces and law enforcement personnel”, stressing that anti-terror operations would continue with full force until the eradication of terrorism.

The president said the Pakistani nation and its valiant armed forces were capable of and determined to foil the designs of the enemies of peace and stability in Pakistan, the region and the world.
He reiterated that, with the cooperation of friendly countries and allies, every effort by enemies of peace and stability would be thwarted.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a statement, praised security forces for successful operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

He said the security forces had demonstrated their professional capabilities, courage and bravery, adding that the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with its brave security forces in the fight against terrorism.
PM further said that operations would continue until terrorism was completely eliminated from the country.
The engagement comes two days after more than 71 terrorists were killed in Shaban and other areas of Balochistan, according to the military’s media affairs wing.

On September 20, two officers and four other personnel were martyred while eight terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire in Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On September 17, security forces killed 10 terrorists in separate operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between September 15 and 17. Earlier this month, more than 20 terrorists were killed in multiple engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between September 3 and 5.
According to monthly data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), at least 378 people were killed in August as the number of terrorist attacks increased.
The data showed that security forces killed 203 terrorists during operations, while 54 security personnel were martyred, representing a decline from July. Balochistan remained the “most affected” province, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the report.
