ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday vowed to continue the country’s fight against terrorism after terrorists attacked a police checkpost guarding the Mangi Dam project in the southwestern province of Balochistan, killing nine police personnel.

According to local officials, the terrorists targeted the checkpost in the Ziarat district, leaving nine policemen dead, including station house officers (SHOs), while several others were reported missing.

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and paid tribute to the fallen police personnel for their sacrifice in the line of duty.

He prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and expressed condolences to their bereaved families.

“The attack by Fitna al-Khawarij has once again proved that these elements are enemies of Balochistan’s peace, development and the prosperity of its people,” the prime minister said.

He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism, declaring that no one would be allowed to undermine peace in Balochistan.

“We will continue our fight against the enemies of peace until the menace of terrorism is eradicated,” he said.

Security Forces Launch Clearance Operation

A senior district official said the terrorists attacked the checkpost responsible for protecting the Mangi Dam project, triggering a swift response from security forces.

Balochistan government spokesman Shahid Rind said paramilitary forces, police and counter-terrorism personnel successfully carried out a joint clearance operation against the attackers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the security forces for killing 15 terrorists during the clearance operation, praising their professionalism and resolve in responding to the attack.

He reiterated that Pakistan’s security forces would continue operations until terrorism was eradicated and lasting peace was restored across the country.
