Pakistan, Indonesia Discuss Regional Security, Bilateral Defence Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Islamabad on Tuesday and discussed regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was in Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan to strengthen bilateral ties in diverse fields.

During the meeting between Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Munir and Indonesian President Subianto, matters of mutual interest, regional security, and bilateral defence cooperation were discussed, Pakistan military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated in a press release.

Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen existing ties between the armed forces of the two brotherly countries, ISPR stated.

The visiting dignitary appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Munir reiterated that Pakistan values its longstanding relations with Indonesia and is committed to expanding defence collaboration in training, counter-terrorism, and capacity-building domains, ISPR added.

Pakistan, Indonesia sign seven MoUs

Earlier today, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting in Islamabad.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation across a wide range of areas, including trade, culture, health, education, and vocational training, a PM House statement said.

During the talks, the two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, including political and diplomatic engagement, economic and trade relations, defence and security, health, education, science and technology, agriculture, and environmental collaboration.

Speaking at a joint press briefing afterwards, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with President Prabowo to achieve the goals set for enhanced collaboration.

Pakistan and Indonesia on Tuesday also signed seven Memorandums of Understanding and agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The signing ceremony was witnessed by PM Sharif and President Subianto.

These MoUs and agreements cover cooperation in higher education, an Indonesian state scholarship grant program, support for business development in small and medium enterprises, collaboration between national archives, joint efforts in narcotics control and combating illicit drug trafficking, cooperation in Halal trade and certification, and partnership in the health sector.
