ISLAMABAD: At the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Government of Pakistan on Sunday dispatched 100 tons of humanitarian assistance to Nepal to support relief efforts for communities affected by devastating floods and landslides.
The humanitarian assistance, coordinated by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), was sent by a chartered flight from Islamabad to Kathmandu, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said. The relief consignment comprised tents, blankets, mats, hygiene kits and medicines for the affected communities.
A send-off ceremony was held at Islamabad International Airport, where Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry attended as chief guest, along with the Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NDMA and other concerned organisations.
The assistance reflects Pakistan’s solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal during this difficult time, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal, extending condolences to the bereaved families and those affected and reaffirming Pakistan’s readiness to provide all possible support in this difficult hour.

Devastating flood in Nepal
The death toll from devastating flash floods in Nepal reached 1,341, with thousands remaining missing Sunday, officials and local media reports said.
The combined death toll from flash floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border rose to 1,384, while 5,519 people remained missing 11 days after the disaster struck, according to official data from the two countries.

Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said around 5,000 people, including 589 foreigners, remained missing.
Chinese authorities said at least 43 people have been confirmed dead, while 519 others remained missing.
Pakistan’s solidarity with Nepal
On Thursday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad and signed the condolence book opened in memory of those who lost their lives in the recent devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal.
The Prime Minister was received by Rita Dhital, Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, according to a statement issued by the PM house’s media wing.

PM Sharif assured the Nepali government that Pakistan would be dispatching emergency relief assistance to the flood-hit nation later this week, to support ongoing rescue and relief operations.
In his message, the Prime Minister conveyed Pakistan’s deepest sympathies to the Government and people of Nepal, and to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

“The Prime Minister reiterated the sentiments he had earlier conveyed to Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah in a telephone call, reaffirming Pakistan’s complete solidarity with Nepal in this hour of grief,” the statement said.
He offered continued support to Nepal and hoped that the resilient people of Nepal would emerge stronger from this tragedy.
The Prime Minister underscored the close and long-standing fraternal ties between Pakistan and Nepal, and expressed confidence that the two countries would continue to stand by each other in times of need.
The Nepali Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister for his kind and reassuring words of support and stated that this gesture would be long remembered by the people of Nepal. She also briefed the Prime Minister on the current state of bilateral cooperation.
Pakistan PM speaks to Nepali counterpart
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with his Nepali counterpart Balendra Shah, adding that the country was dispatching emergency relief assistance to Nepal to support ongoing relief and rescue efforts.
The Prime Minister conveyed heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the recent flash floods and landslides in Nepal, said a statement issued by the PM’s office.
“While expressing complete solidarity with the Nepali leadership and people on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, the Prime Minister offered whatever possible assistance was required at this difficult time,” it said.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah thanked the Prime Minister for the telephone call and expression of solidarity and support in the wake of the natural calamity. He also expressed gratitude for the generous offer of assistance made by Pakistan.
