ISLAMABAD: Haroon Akhtar Khan, a senior aide to Pakistan’s prime minister on industries and production, said on Tuesday that Pakistan and China are strengthening cooperation in digital technology and economic modernisation as Islamabad seeks to attract investment and accelerate industrial reforms.
Speaking at the inauguration of the IBI Pakistan Digital Economy Headquarters, Haroon Akhtar said the initiative reflected a new phase in Pakistan-China economic relations focused on technology, trade and digital transformation.
“IBI Pakistan Digital Economy is not just an office, but a reflection of a new economic vision in Pakistan-China partnership,” he said.
He added that Pakistan and China were jointly shaping the region’s economic future through cooperation in artificial intelligence, e-commerce, automation and digital connectivity.
The Pakistani official said the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was pursuing economic reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence and improving the business environment.
Manufacturing and technological expertise
Haroon Akhtar highlighted measures under Pakistan’s National Industrial Policy and National Tariff Policy designed to revive industries, support private sector growth and reduce business costs.
“Pakistan is rolling out red carpets, not red tape, for investors,” he said.
He also said Islamabad was simplifying regulations and digitising approval systems to encourage long-term foreign investment.
According to Haroon Akhtar, China’s manufacturing and technological expertise combined with Pakistan’s strategic location and young population could create a powerful regional economic partnership.
He said the new digital economy platform would support trade, investment and innovation while helping create employment opportunities and strengthen Pakistan’s technology sector.
