MUZAFFARABAD: A leaked audio recording circulating on social media has raised fresh questions about the objectives of certain members associated with the proscribed Joint Action Committee (JAC), with security analysts saying the conversation contradicts the group’s public assertions of pursuing peaceful protests.

The recording features individuals identified as Hamid Kashmiri and Sajid Azam discussing preparations ahead of planned demonstrations in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In the audio, one of the speakers claims to have the support of hundreds of armed individuals and discusses plans related to movement toward Rawalakot. The speaker is also heard referring to efforts aimed at securing the release of detained associates, according to excerpts circulating online.

The recording further appears to contain references to organising groups at specific locations and coordinating their movement during the planned protests. In one portion of the audio, a speaker makes remarks suggesting indifference to potential casualties, drawing criticism from observers.

Security analysts said the purported conversation raises concerns about the intentions of certain elements involved in the protest movement. They argued that the language used in the recording appears inconsistent with claims that the demonstrations were solely aimed at peaceful civic engagement.

The developments come amid heightened political activity in AJK ahead of the upcoming elections. Authorities have repeatedly emphasised the need to resolve disputes through dialogue and democratic processes while maintaining peace and stability in the region.
