ISLAMABAD: Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan has been included to the five-member Supreme Court bench set to hear revision petitions about Article 63A, local media reported on Tuesday.

The development came following a recommendation from Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who earlier suggested Justice Mansoor Ali Shah for the SC bench. However, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah did not attend the Practice and Procedure Committee meeting, leading the SC to appoint Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as the replacement.

The committee, that convened at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, tool the decision by majority vote to appoint Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan to the bench following Justice Mansoor’s non-participation. With this inclusion, the five-member bench has been completed and will hear the Article 63A case today.

On Monday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan began hearing the review petition, but due to Justice Muneeb Akhtar’s absence, the court adjourned the hearing.

Following Justice Muneeb’s no-show, the Chief Justice has proposed the name of Justice Mansoor, but as a result of his decline to join, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan has been added to the SC bench.
