ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Jordan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in counter‑narcotics operations and police training, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Thursday.

In a statement posted on his social media account X, the minister said he held a meeting with his Jordanian counterpart, Mazen Abdullah Hilal Al‑Faraya, during which both sides discussed ways to enhance collaboration between their interior ministries.

Naqvi also invited the Jordanian interior minister to visit Pakistan to sustain the momentum of growing ties between Islamabad and Amman.

He quoted Al‑Faraya as describing Pakistan as a “brotherly country” and recalling the recent successful state visit of King Abdullah II of Jordan to Pakistan in November 2025 — the first by a Jordanian monarch in 21 years — during which the two countries reaffirmed their historic bonds and explored avenues for cooperation across political, economic, defence, cultural, and media sectors.

Naqvi said both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in various security‑related sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional linkages for regional stability and mutual benefit.

Pakistan and Jordan established formal diplomatic relations shortly after the independence of Pakistan.

The relationship has been characterised by regular political dialogue and strong defence cooperation.

Jordanian officers have long trained at Pakistan’s military institutions, while both countries have coordinated closely on Middle Eastern peace efforts, especially concerning the Palestinian cause.

In recent years, both states have sought to expand their cooperation beyond security, focusing more on economic engagement, tourism, cultural diplomacy, and educational exchange.
