BEIRUT: Israel killed a Hezbollah fighter in a strike in the Qusayr area of Syria, near the Lebanese border, also striking near Damascus Thursday, a war monitor said, hours after similar attacks. The strikes also targeted Syrian air defense and radar installations near Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Britain-based monitor, confirmed that an Israeli drone strike on a truck resulted in the death of a Hezbollah fighter near the Syrian-Lebanese border. Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes hit strategic Syrian military sites, as explosions were heard in Damascus, indicating the intensity of the attacks.

Notably, Syrian state media remained silent regarding the reported strikes. The targeted region holds significance as Hezbollah exerts considerable influence over Lebanon’s eastern border with Syria, as well as territories on the Syrian side, including Qusayr.
The recent surge in airstrikes coincides with heightened tensions between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
This latest incident follows previous strikes attributed to Israel, including an attack near Damascus that claimed the lives of two fighters earlier in the week, as well as a strike last week that resulted in the deaths of two Hezbollah members near the Lebanese border.
