RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Interior, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, has issued a strong warning over what he described as Iranian aggression, calling it a serious threat to regional security and stability.
Speaking during the 43rd session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council—held via video conference on Wednesday—the minister said recent attacks attributed to Iran on several Arab and regional states have endangered civilians and critical infrastructure.
He stressed that such actions are unjustifiable under any circumstances and represent a clear violation of international conventions, with wider implications for global peace and security.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Prince Abdulaziz, who also serves as Honorary President of the Council, conveyed greetings from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the outset of the meeting. He noted that the gathering comes at a time of heightened regional tension and evolving security challenges.
Beyond geopolitical concerns, the minister highlighted the growing complexity of transnational threats. He pointed to a surge in organised crime, illicit drug trafficking, extremism, terrorism and cybercrime, all of which are being accelerated by rapid technological advancements.
In particular, he warned that synthetic drug markets are expanding, while digital platforms are increasingly being exploited for money laundering, human trafficking and the spread of extremist ideologies.
Cybercrime, including digital fraud and ransomware attacks, has become a major concern, he said, especially with the misuse of artificial intelligence tools amplifying risks and sophistication.
Prince Abdulaziz emphasised that confronting these challenges requires a comprehensive and multidimensional approach. He underlined the importance of investing in human capital, advanced technologies, research and innovation, arguing that security today is closely linked to the knowledge economy.
He added that strengthening societal resilience, deepening Arab cooperation and enhancing intellectual capabilities would pave the way for sustainable security across the region.
Concluding his remarks, the minister expressed appreciation for the ongoing efforts of security agencies across Arab states and commended the General Secretariat of the Council for organising the session.
