TEHRAN: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said on Thursday they had launched missile and drone strikes on US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for fresh American attacks on Iranian territory.
In a statement carried by state television IRIB, the IRGC said it targeted what it described as “key infrastructure and facilities” at the Arifjan and Ali Al Salem bases in Kuwait, as well as the Juffair and Sheikh Isa bases in Bahrain.
The Guards said the attacks were a direct response to the latest US military strikes against Iran.
The IRGC also warned that any further American attacks would trigger broader retaliation against US military installations across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
The retaliation came hours after the United States launched another wave of strikes on Iran, saying the attacks were aimed at protecting freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz following an alleged Iranian attack on three commercial cargo ships.
President Donald Trump declared that an interim peace accord with Iran was “over” and warned of further military action.
“This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform after the strikes.
The US military said the latest operation was intended to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.
The conflict has continued since February 28, when U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran triggered a cycle of military retaliation between the two sides.
An interim peace accord signed on June 17 had offered hope of de-escalation, but those efforts appeared to collapse after President Donald Trump declared the agreement “over” as the latest exchange of strikes unfolded.
