DETROIT: An Indian doctor wanted in the United States over sexual offences against patients appears to be practising medicine in India nearly a decade after leaving the country, according to police in Michigan.
Dr Vivek Loomba, a former physician at Henry Ford Health, was charged in 2017 with four counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving force or coercion.
West Bloomfield police say Loomba left the United States while the case was under investigation and never returned. Warrants for his arrest remain active.
Local media outlet WDIV reported that Loomba appears to be associated with a pain-management clinic in Delhi and maintains an active presence on social media. A person answering the clinic’s phone said an appointment with him could be arranged.
Multiple allegations
Police said four women came forward with similar accusations involving inappropriate touching during medical appointments.
One former patient, Lori McKee, previously said that Loomba sexually assaulted her during a hospital visit in West Bloomfield.
Police records cited by WDIV also detail allegations from another patient who said Loomba touched her breasts during an appointment for neck and back pain. Nurses later told investigators that such contact was not part of the clinic’s normal procedures.

Three civil lawsuits filed on behalf of patients were later dismissed without prejudice because Loomba could not be served after leaving the United States.
West Bloomfield police said the FBI and US Homeland Security authorities have been involved in the case.
Investigators say Loomba remains flagged in US security systems, meaning authorities could be alerted if he attempts to travel to the United States.
Loomba has not been convicted of the charges, and attempts by WDIV to obtain his response were unsuccessful.
