ISLAMABAD: Minister for National Heritage and Culture Jamal Shah announced the launch of a dedicated heritage channel aimed at promoting the regional literature of Pakistan.
This channel is expected to raise awareness among the younger generation about their regional languages and rich linguistic identities.
In an interview with the state news channel, Jamal Shah emphasized that the Heritage channel’s mission is to showcase and celebrate Pakistan’s diverse culture in a manner that resonates with the people of Pakistan, highlighting the country’s heritage, civilization, and cultural history.
He emphasized that the channel aims to engage the general public in a modern and vibrant way, with content that reflects the views and cultural richness of the Pakistani people.
Responding to a question about the folk festival, “Lok Mela 2023,” initiated in Islamabad, Jamal Shah mentioned that this grand cultural event will offer a rich cultural experience for attendees. It will feature various activities, including provincial pavilions, shopping stalls, food vendors, and musical programs, contributing to the promotion of regional languages and the preservation of arts, crafts, folk music, and traditional skills of the nation.
He highlighted that this unique event symbolizes the government’s recognition and support for Pakistan’s cultural diversity, with active participation from the public.
In response to another question, he expressed regret over the historically low wages of artists and revealed that the current government is committed to addressing this issue as a top priority. They plan to increase the maximum salaries for the welfare of the artist community.
The minister also stressed the importance of federal, provincial, and territorial heritage sites in preserving Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. He acknowledged the need for additional governmental resources to support this sector and address its current challenges effectively. —APP
