PESHAWAR: On Thursday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended three individuals engaged in illegal money exchange operations and seized significant local and foreign currencies.
According to the FIA’s spokesperson from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zone, a targeted operation led to the arrest of three people involved in Hawala Hundi activities, identified as Umar, Jalal Ahmad, and Shiraz. This operation was carried out in Abbottabad and Swat.
The FIA successfully arrested the three suspects in the first Commercial Banking Circle Peshawar operation. During this operation, authorities confiscated a sum of Rs 3.5 million, 1800 UAE Dirham, 2900 USD, 1000 Japanese Yen, 50,000 Saudi Riyal, and 100 Pounds from the suspects.
The spokesperson said the accused were engaged in an illicit money exchange business as they failed to explain satisfactorily for possessing such funds.
The Composite Circle in Abbottabad started the second operation, arresting two individuals involved in human trafficking. These accused had deceived numerous individuals by promising them job opportunities in European countries and fraudulently took their hard-earned money.
The FIA spokesperson shared that the accused had collected approximately Rs 5.2 million from their victims before going into hiding. Legal actions have been initiated against the arrested people by the FIA. —APP
