ISLAMABAD/CALIFORNIA: Meta Platforms Inc’s social media apps, Facebook, Wattsapp and Instagram, limped back to normalcy after facing a brief disruption across the United States on Wednesday, the outage tracking website, Downdetector.com, said.
Meta Inc’s social media applications were down on Wednesday for thousands of users in the US.
Facebook users faced blackout
At the outage’s peak, over 17,000 users reported issues with Instagram at 2352 GMT. Over 13,000 Facebook users faced the blackout. Outage reports also briefly spiked for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger in the US around the same time.
Meta did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the issue.
Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
Outages of big tech platforms were not unusual as several companies ranging from Google to Microsoft Corp have, in the past, seen service disruptions. Microsoft was down earlier on Wednesday, affecting its cloud platform Azure along with Teams and Outlook, affecting millions of users globally.
