Explosion at coal mine in Iran’s north kills 6: Media (ARAB NEWS)

TEHRAN: According to official media, a coal mine explosion in northern Iran on Monday claimed the lives of six miners.

According to the official IRNA news agency, the explosion occurred in a tunnel in the northern city of Damghan at a depth of 400 metres (440 yards). What triggered the explosion was not immediately obvious.

“Six miners were trapped underground on Sunday when the coal mine explosion took place in Damghan,” Iranian media reported.

The remains were discovered Monday morning, but efforts to save the miners failed, it continued.

IRNA aired footage of other workers at the scene attempting to rescue the bodies and remains of their coworkers from beneath the debris.

Two miners perished in a fall in May 2021 at the same mining site, according to local media at the time.

In 2017, a coal mine explosion in Azad Shahr city in northern Iran resulted in the deaths of 43 miners
