ISLAMABAD: China has announced a set of measures aimed at expanding exchanges with Taiwan, focusing on travel, trade and cultural cooperation, following the conclusion of a visit by a senior Taiwanese opposition leader, Chiang Wan-an.

Authorities in China said the new steps are designed to facilitate people-to-people interaction and improve economic and cultural connectivity across the Taiwan Strait.

The measures include easing travel arrangements for residents, promoting the gradual resumption of direct flights, and expanding access for Taiwanese agricultural and fishery products.

Chinese officials also said provisions would be made to allow broader distribution of selected Taiwanese media and cultural content.

Beijing further indicated that mechanisms would be developed to enhance regular communication and exchanges with relevant groups in Taiwan, with a focus on deepening cooperation in multiple sectors.

The announcement came after a visit to the mainland by a senior figure from Taiwan’s opposition Kuomintang, during which meetings were held with officials in Beijing.

China reaffirmed its position on promoting cross-strait exchanges and said it would continue to introduce policies aiming to facilitate interaction and cooperation between the two sides.
