Avalanche Kills British Woman in French Alps

PARIS: Rescue officials have said that a British woman has died in an avalanche in the French Alps, BBC reported on Sunday.

The mishap took place when she was hiking with two other people on the Argentière Glacier. Reports said that the incident happened on Saturday. 

Colonel Bertrand Host of the mountain rescue unit said that they were by a guide at around 16:00 GMT. The official said that a doctor and rescue team were dispatched by helicopter to rescue the 45-year-old woman but they could not rescue her.

On the other hand, police said that they have started a probe into the incident. It said that the investigation will ascertain the circumstances of the death.

Avalanche Warning

The officials also confirmed that there was an avalanche warning risk of 3 on a scale of 5 in place on Saturday. According to the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, it was providing help to the family of the woman.
