CAIRO, Egypt: The Arab League and the Arab Parliament have strongly condemned the recent Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates, warning that such actions mark a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law.
The Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in a statement on Tuesday, strongly condemned the drone and missile attacks, terming them a blatant violation of international law and the ceasefire agreement.
He called for an immediate end to these attacks, holding Iran fully accountable for their consequences, which he warned pose a serious threat to international peace and security.
He also reaffirmed that Arab national security is indivisible, emphasising the League’s complete solidarity with the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohamed Al-Yammahi also issued a statement condemning the missile and drone strikes on civilian sites in the United Arab Emirates, describing them as a clear breach of international law and a serious threat to both regional and global stability.
He stressed that the international community must take responsibility by denouncing these attacks, ensuring they stop immediately, and adopting firm measures to prevent any recurrence.
Al-Yammahi also reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s complete support for the UAE and its efforts to maintain its security and stability.
Saudi condemnation
Earlier, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a telephone conversation with United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which he conveyed Saudi Arabia’s “strong condemnation” of the Iranian attacks, according to the kingdom’s official news agency.
During the call, bin Salman expressed Riyadh’s “denunciation of the unjustified Iranian attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates,” and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for the UAE in safeguarding its “security and stability.”
Also, the Saudi Foreign Ministry has called for de-escalation, urging restraint and an end to further escalation, while expressing support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts and broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at reaching a political solution to prevent the region from sliding into greater instability.
Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Defence on Tuesday said its air defence systems neutralised 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and four drones before they could reach their intended targets. No casualties or damage were immediately reported.
The incident prompted a swift and unified response from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which termed the attack a “flagrant violation” of the sovereignty of one of its member states.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi strongly denounced Iran’s actions, calling them “irresponsible” and accusing Tehran of adopting an escalatory approach that undermines regional peace and stability.
