FIROZKOH, Afghanistan: The Afghanistan United Front has claimed responsibility for an explosion at the Taliban governor’s office in Ghor province, as Taliban forces detained at least 10 people over involvement in the attack.
The United Front, led by former senior Afghan military commander, Lt Gen Sami Sadat, claimed responsibility for the blast but has not provided further details about the incident.
United Front is an opposition organisation challenging Taliban rule.
According to local sources, the Taliban tightened security across Firozkoh, the provincial capital, and blocked roads leading to the governor’s office following the explosion.

Hayatullah Mubarak, the Taliban-appointed governor of Ghor, was in charge of the provincial administration. It remains unclear whether he was inside the office when the explosion occurred.
Earlier, local sources reported a powerful blast in Firozkoh, with witnesses saying smoke was seen rising from the provincial government building.

The explosion caused panic among residents, while details about the type of explosive used and possible casualties remained unclear.
Before the United Front’s claim, no group had publicly taken responsibility for the blast, while Taliban officials had not immediately commented on the incident.
