Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar Appointed as Caretaker Sindh CM

ISLAMABAD: Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar has been nominated as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh province.

His name to head the Sindh caretaker setup was finalized in a meeting between the Sindh Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, and the opposition leader, the MQM Coordination Committee Rana Ansar on Monday.

He is expected to take the oath of his office on Tuesday.

Justice Maqbool Baqar retired as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on April 4, 2022. He was born on April 5, 1957, in Karachi. He got his LL.B. degree from the University of Karachi in 1979.

Justice Baqar started his career as an advocate in the Sindh High Court in 1980. He remained a judge of the Sindh High Court from 2002 to 2015.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2015.

Justice Baqar is known to write some very important judgments, including the judgment in the case of Asif Zardari against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). In the judgement, he ruled that the NAB had exceeded its powers in the investigation of former President Asif Zardari.

Justice Baqar is currently a visiting professor at the University of Karachi.

Earlier today, Anwarul Haq Kakar took the oath of office as Pakistan’s eighth interim prime minister, assuming a crucial role in overseeing the nation’s affairs during the upcoming election period.

President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to Kakar in a solemn ceremony held at the President’s House in Islamabad, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day.
