RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Tehran has resumed operations following a thaw in relations seven years after the mission was closed.

Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to resume diplomatic ties and reopen their respective embassies following a China-brokered agreement announced in March.

The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Iran has officially started its activities and has been operating since Sunday, AFP reported citing Iranian official media reports.

However, there has been no official confirmation from Saudi Arabia on the move.

In June, Tehran marked the reopening of its embassy in the Saui capital Riyadh with a flag-raising ceremony.

Iranian media had previously attributed the delay in restarting work in the Saudi embassy to the poor condition of the embassy building which was damaged during the 2016 protests.

The reports said Saudi envoys would work from a luxury hotel in the Tehran pending the completion of the works.
