WASHINGTON: United States is bracing for storms as warnings from meteorological department include damaging high winds, tornados and hail storms across the eastern side.
The meteorologists have advised people to stay inside. Thunderstorms with strong winds have uprooted trees and knocked down power supply in Maryland and Virginia, affecting over 20,000 homes.
According to reports, 800,000 customers have lost power in southern and mid-Atlantic states. The US capital Washington DC has offices getting closed early and a flood warning is in place.
National Weather Service has warned over 29.5 million people from Alabama to western New York are faced with the risk of tornadoes and extreme weather patterns.
The flights have been grounded owing to thunderstorms at New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Baltimore. Federal Aviation Service is rerouting the flights avoiding the path of storms.
FlightAware that keeps track of air traffic on its site has mentioned 2600 flights getting cancelled including over 100 flights to Washington Reagan National Airport, 35 to Washington Dulles Airport and 7700 flights are delayed at different airports.
